Les Cheneaux
We finally experienced warm, sunny weather last week. It was nice to see more boats on the channel and swimmers at the beach.
Don’t forget to visit the Arts Council’s exhibition at Cedarville Inn. There are many oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings by local and summer visitors. There also are some beautiful photographs on display. While you’re there, be sure to sign the guest book and check out the silent auction offerings. The Artists Reception will be Thursday, August 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The silent auction items include watercolors by Don Melander and Gerry Adams, a floral photograph by Linda Henderson, a reversible flowerpot by Jerry Reid, and a scissor cutting by Annegret Goehring, to name a few.
Volunteers are a necessary part of any successful community organization. Not only does it help the community, it’s good for the soul. One does not have to be bored, even during the winter months in Les Cheneaux. The community library, Cedar Cove Assisted Living, and Les Cheneaux Schools can all use extra help. In fact, I just spoke with Kim Gay, activities director at Cedar Cove. They need more members on their board; there are only three and there is room for 10, so I volunteered on the spot. This is another satisfying way to fill the hours for retirees during the winter months.

The community garage sale Saturday, August 15, drew many people, at least it seemed so at Cedar Cove, where they had a bake sale along with all of the other items.
There will be a musicale at First Union Church Sunday, August 23, at 7 p.m. This will be an evening of music, fellowship, and refreshments. The musicale is a fundraiser to benefit the scholarship fund of Lake Superior State University’s Anchor House/Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Ministry. All are invited.
Labor Day is just around the corner once more. Football practice has begun, and it won’t be long before school opens and classes begin again. The summer has passed so quickly, as it seems to every year, and believe me, the older one gets, the faster it goes. Enjoy what is left.
