Mackinac County's hospital millage will be up for renewal in the Tuesday, November 3, election. The 1.2 mills ($1.20 per $1,000 of taxable property value) is the same rate approved by voters five years ago. If approved, the millage will be levied for five years starting in 2010 and is expected to raise $1,088,700 each year.

The county-wide millage will support Mackinac Straits Health System, the St. Ignace Hospital.

The current millage raised $1,049,020 in 2008, Equalization Director James Fenlon said. Approved by voters for 1.2 mills five years ago, it has been rolled back to 1.1818 mills under the Headlee Amendment, which caps any revenue increase to the rate of inflation.
