2009-08-20 / News

Applications are now available for Michigan’s 2009 Community Forestry Grant program. These grants are funded through the USDA Forest Service, State and Private Forestry Programs. Applications must be received by Monday, August 31.

Local units of government (cities, villages, townships, and counties), nonprofit organizations, tribes, and educational institutions are eligible to apply for funding to enhance urban and community forest resources. This year, approximately $100,000 will be awarded statewide for projects that can help communities enhance the benefits of trees, incorporate new technology, promote volunteerism, conserve or expand community tree cover, and stimulate community pride and support for this resource.

Visit the “Grants and Assistance” section of the Department of Natural Resources’ Urban Forestry Web site at www.mi.gov.dnrucf to download the application and guidelines.
