Pickford To Host Food Canning Workshop

The Pickford Farmers Market is hosting a canning workshop Thurs - day, August 20, at Pickford Town - ship Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Janet Rathke from Michigan State University Extension will conduct the day-long workshop in the lower level of the township hall.

The workshop will focus on the process of packing and processing fresh produce, and cover U.S. Department of Agriculture ap - proved methods for preserving foods.

Canning materials, including jars, lids, and produce, will be provided at the workshop, and each person will receive a book on canning. Produce canned at the workshop can be taken home.

A $30 fee will be charged to register for the workshop and participants are asked to bring their own lunch. To register, contact Pickford Market Master Sheila Bergdoll at 647-8500.
