St. Ignace Township Approves Three Road Agreements
The St. Ignace Township Board of Trustees approved three road agreements with the Mackinac County Road Commission Thurs - day, August 13, to re-gravel and reconstruct a 1.5-mile section of Charles Moran Road and cut the grass along local roads in the township.
A one-mile stretch of Charles Moran Road west of I-75 is scheduled to be re-graveled sometime in September, if not sooner, said County Road Commission Manager Dirk Heckman. The township will initially pay two-thirds of the total $15,000 cost, with the remaining $5,000 coming from the Mackinac County Road Commission. The township will be reimbursed half of that initial cost from the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners once the project is completed.
The half-mile west of the stretch to be re-graveled will be completely reconstructed, Mr. Heckman said. He said the sub-base under the road will replaced with 18 inches of sand and then topped with six inches of gravel. The road commission will also clean the ditches along this half-mile stretch.
The reconstruction project is expected to cost $103,400, with the total estimated township cost being $9,400. The road commission will match the cost to the township, and the remaining $84,600 will come from state and federal funding, Mr. Heckman said. He said the two projects are expected to take about three weeks to complete.
An agreement to cut grass along road shoulders was also signed at Thursday's meeting. Township officials signed an agreement for $1,000 to have the road commission cut the grass along township roads to run concurrently with the scheduled cutting of grass along the shoulders of county roads. Some of the cutting is already completed, Mr. Heckman said.
