Burger Bash To Benefit Nancy’s Place Thursday
A "Burger Bash" will be Thursday, August 20, at the VFW hall in St. Ignace to benefit repairs being made to Nancy's Place, which sustained marginal fire damage earlier this summer. Burgers and fries will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the VFW for a donation of $5 per person. All proceeds will go toward reconstruction costs.
Heavy smoke and water damage to Nancy's Place temporarily displaced the four families living in the building. The June 2 fire is believed to have started in the building's attic and spread to the second-floor apartment.
Doreen Howson, executive director of the Diane Peppler Resource Center, which owns Nancy's Place, said one of the displaced families will be returning to the building sometime this month. The other three families have found residence elsewhere.
She said repairs to the basement and main level apartments are scheduled for completion this week, and the two upper-level apartments are to be completed in September.
"It's coming along quite well, but it's still taking time," she said.
