It’t that time of year again as colleges open their doors and students in grade school and high school prepare to start classes. School starts in St. Ignace Tuesday, September 8.
High school football practice has started in St. Ignace.

I received a phone call from my niece, Marietta, of Yuba, California. She plans to travel to Whitewater, Wisconsin, where she will meet her brother, Wesley Therrian. The two plan to walk the Mackinac Bridge Monday, September 7.
Buneva Rickley with her sons, Billy and John, and Sara Taylor had a great vacation in Tennessee recently. It was quite a surprise for son, Don, his wife, Marsha, and children, Taylor, Abagail, and Kaylee, to see the family. Don is in the U.S. Marines. Everyone had a lot of fun.

Sealing the floor are Dakota McLennan, Dallas McLennan, Dalton McLennan, and neighbors Jake Fenlon, Jared Fenlon, Dalton Lallier, and Michael Lennington. The family is awaiting delivery of trusses for the house, and volunteers will be needed to put them up. Volunteers may stop by the work site on Keightley Street anytime, or call Mrs. O’Brien at 643-0550. (Photograph courtesy of Patti O’Brien)

Mary Ney reported a reunion party was planned for 40-some members of the LaSalle High School Class of 1964-65 at the home of Nancy Ahlich in Elk Rapids, but 10 days before the party, Nancy called and had to cancel the party. Not to worry. The next day Kathleen Paquin had an invitation from her sister, Norma (nee Paquin) Bishop to use her home on Medora Street in St. Ignace. All of the girls had a party Friday, August 14, then an invitation came from Phil and Julie (nee Hagen) Hiser to attend a second party to include husbands at their cabin on Lake Michigan Saturday, August 15. Mary tells us Julie Hagen and Phil Hiser entertained (classmates listed by maiden name) Joan Marie Lasley and Junior Law, Chris Ney and Jim Bogan, Mary Lou McKinnon, Suzy Pemble and Donnie Hakula, Catherine Corp and Terry Nayback, Connie Corp, Gail Allen and Doug Carmean, Shelly Carmean and Brooks Partridge, Butch Heckman, and Kathleen Paquin and Leo Bell. They enjoyed a great time with lots of conversation of fun times and memories in St. Ignace.
Kim Karinen of Attica, Michigan, sent a note and a photograph of one of our Saturday evening fireworks displays over Moran Bay. “We were in St. Ignace for the week, and enjoyed the whole week,” she wrote. “Thanks for a nice show.”
