Mystery Author To Speak at Mackinac Island Library

(Photograph courtesy of Sean Chercover) Murder and mystery are coming to the Mackinac Island Public Library Friday, August 28, at 4 p.m. when author Sean Chercover visits the Island. Mr. Chercover will speak about his crime thrillers, particularly his most recent book "Trigger City," as a part of the library's 12th annual Summer Author Series. The program is free of charge.

Mr. Chercover worked as a private detective and investigator in Chicago and New Orleans before moving to Toronto to work as a writer and video editor in the television industry. He's had several other jobs over the years, including truck driver, magician, and car-jockey.

His first novel, "Big City, Bad Blood" came out in 2007 and won the Shamus, Gumshoe, Crimespree, and Lovey Awards for crime fiction. He's also written several short stories, including "Thriller 2," "Hardcore Hardboiled," "Killer Year," "Chicago Blues," and "A Sleep Not Unlike Death," which was nominated for an Edgar Award for mystery writing.

Mr. Chercover lives in Toronto and Chicago with his wife and son.

Mr. Chercover is the last author of the library's series this year. Past speakers were Brian Dunnigan, who spoke about his recent book, "A Picturesque Situation: Mackinac Before Photography, 1615-1860" and Margaret Noori, who spoke about her essay on the recent collection of writings by Jane Johnston Schoolcraft.
