Edward McGuire, Jr.
Edward J. McGuire, Jr., 85, of Gould City, was a United States veteran of two wars. Mr. McGuire died Monday, August 17, 2009, at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry.
He was born August 23, 1923, in Manchester, New Hampshire, to Edward and Margaret (nee Peatfield) McGuire. He attended schools in New Hampshire.
Mr. McGuire served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married Gloria G. Watts September 23, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana. They moved to Gould City in 1952.
He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Inland Lime and Stone Company for 35 years. He was a member of the VFW Boucha-Draves-Raski Post 8372 of Engadine and the American Legion Post 8 of Winter Haven, Florida, and Post 290 of Engadine.
Mr. McGuire enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Gould City; three sons and their families, Steve and Gail McGuire of Gould City, David and Gloria McGuire of Manistique, and William and Meredith McGuire of Oceanside, California; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, James and Timothy, both of Manchester; four sisters, Margaret, Connie, Theresa, and Dorothy, all of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Robert, and William.
Services will be held at the Gould City Presbyterian Church Wednesday, August 26, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Al Valentine officiating.
