Arts, crafts, and music will take over the waterfront park in Cedarville Saturday, September 5, when the Les Cheneaux Area Artisans Cooperative hosts its ninth annual Music and Art in the Park festival. The one-day event is the second of two art shows the co-op organizes each summer in the Les Cheneaux area.

Organizers are expecting up to 1,000 people to attend the free event that showcases co-op members' works of art and crafts. The show begins at 10 a.m. and goes on until 4 p.m. at Cedarville Waterfront Park on Hodeck Street.

"In the past we've had close to 1,000 people," organizer Randy Dunn said. He is expecting about the same turnout this year from EUP residents and tourists in town for the holiday weekend, providing the weath- er remains pleasant.

Mr. Dunn said many of the artists exhibiting will also be demonstrating how they make their wares.

"The primary focus is demonstrating artists," he said. "Several of the artists will be working on site. It's an opportunity for people to not only watch artists at work, but to have a personal, hands-on experience."

Mr. Dunn, who is a metal-arts crafter, will be at the show demonstrating how to shape and cut metal using hand tools. A wide variety of other art forms will also be represented at the show.

About 15 co-op members from the Les Cheneaux, Pickford, and DeTour areas are expected to exhibit their work and demonstrate how they make their wares during Labor Day weekend fair.

Musicians will perform as art enthusiasts peruse the grounds.
