Bette Emmons

Bette Emmons Bette Emmons Bette J. O’Brien Emmons, 87, of St. Ignace and Mackinac Island, died Tuesday evening, August 25, 2009, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care in St. Ignace, where she was a resident for several years.

She was born on Mackinac Island July 2, 1922, to Leslie and Grace (nee Souco) O’Brien. She spent much of her life on Mackinac Island, and purchased a home on Hillcrest Boulevard in St. Ignace in her later years.

She married Otto “Bud” Emmons May 30, 1942.

Mrs. Emmons was self employed; she was the hospitality cook for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours employees.

She is survived by two children and their families, Michael and Nancy Emmons of St. Petersburg, Florida, Joann Bagbey of St. Ignace; two grandchildren and their families, Shelley and Jeff Izzard of Cadillac and Tammey and Patrick Schlehuber of St. Ignace, and five great-grandchildren, Amelia Gustafson, Zakk Izzard, Sam, Mitchell, and Joe Schlehuber.

Mrs. Emmons was preceded in death by her husband May 7, 1986.

A memorial service was Monday, August 31, at Ste. Anne’s Catholic Church on Mackinac Island with Father Rey Garcia and Deacon Dean Hermann officiating. Burial was in Ste. Anne’s Cemetery beside her husband.

Memorials may be directed to Mackinac Straits Long Term Care with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home, which assisted the family with arrangements.
