Eva Hakola

Eva Dagmar Hakola, 87, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.

She was born July 31, 1922, to Elias and Maria (nee Maki) Koivisto of Rudyard, was graduated from Rudyard High School in 1940, and was a secretary for Soo Hardware in Sault Ste. Marie.

She married Rudolph E. Hakola of Rudyard October 15, 1941, and the couple purchased a farm on Prairie Road near her parents, where they lived for 30 years, and had a cabin on St. Martin Bay in St. Ignace Township.

Mrs. Hakola enjoyed cooking, baking, crafts, gardening, and crocheting. She was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard.

She is survived two children and their families, Gerald and Connie Hakola of LaHabra, California, and Carolyn and Thomas Eckert of Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren and their families, Kim and Bill Dickson of Beaverton, Oregon, Jim and Debby Hakola of Long Beach, California, Tom and Susan Eckert of Oldsmar, Florida, and Tracy Eckert LoBono of Laguna Hills, California; four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Rachel Dickson and David and Bethany Eckert, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years; three brothers, Nilo, Emil, and John Koivisto, and four sisters, Lyma Tate, Sylvia Malaska, and Elizabeth and Bertha Koivisto.

Services will be Wednesday, September 9, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
