Floyd Mosher
Floyd Mosher, 93, of Sitka, Alaska, died Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the Sitka Pioneers Home.
He was born November 21, 1915, in St. Ignace to Frank and Ellen (nee Chenier) Mosher.
Mr. Mosher attended primary and secondary schools in St. Ignace, and after high school he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Michigan.
He moved to Ketchikan in 1938, and married Cora Ludwigsen May 2, 1940.
In 1953 Mr. Mosher went to work at Alaska Airlines as a machinist. He retired 20 years later, in 1973, and went to work at Ketchikan Pulp Company, where he worked for 11 years.
Mr. Mosher enjoyed hunting, hiking, and fishing, and was always a curious naturalist, forever in awe of the land he loved, his family said. He and his wife especially loved their daily sojourns at Ward Lake. For many years they and their friends gathered there to hike, socialize, and enjoy fireside meetings.
He spent many summer vacations in St. Ignace and enjoyed walking the beaches and wooded trails.
Mr. Mosher is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cora, of Sitka; a daughter, Janice Webb of Sitka; a son and his family, Ron and Bitsy Mosher of Sitka; six grandchildren and their families, Curtis and Lynn Webb of Sacramento, California, Michael and Joselyn Webb, Trevor and Barbara Webb, all of Sitka, Jolene Mosher of Ketchikan, and Amelia Mosher and Nicholas Mosher, both of Sitka; seven greatgrandchildren, Nicole Webb, Austin Webb, both of Sacramento, Justine Webb, Hayden Webb, Madison Webb, Shane Webb, and Zachery Webb, all of Sitka.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Mosher and Aloysius Mosher, and a sister, Helen Fuser.
Services were Wednesday, August 12, at the Pioneers Home chapel in Sitka, and Saturday, August 29, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Ketchikan, where Mr. and Mrs. Mosher had lived before moving to Sitka two years ago.
Memorials may be made to Holy Name Catholic School in Ketchikan.
