Richard F. Canfield, 68, of Hessel, died unexpectedly at his home Friday evening, August 28, 2009.

He was born in Cheboygan November 22, 1940, to Lester and Mae (nee Quesnell) Canfield.

After his graduation from high school, Mr. Canfield entered the U.S. Navy, and then he became a custom cabinet and finish carpenter. He also did custom trim work. He retired about 10 years ago and lived on the Pine River for the past seven years.

He is a Disabled American Veteran and a member of Moose Lodge #999.

He is survived by three children and their families, Carl and Suzane Canfield of Liven, Christine and Daniel VanSlambrook of Pinckney, and Shannon and Anthony Canfield-Randazzo of Livonia; two brothers and their families, Harold and Doris Canfield of Commerse Township, Gary and Lori Canfield of Pinckney; four sisters and their families, Betty Canfield, Elaine Canfield, both of Gaylord, Sharon and Charles Shaw of Howell, Patricia and Terry Nadeau of Fowlerville; four grandchildren, Kiersten, Katelyn, Lauren, and McKenzie, and former wife, Catherine Canfield of Livonia.

A memorial will be held at a later date in Livonia.

Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
