in EUPC Opener

Engadine hosted Brimley in an early season match-up of potential Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference leaders with the Eagles sweeping the visiting Bays 25-19, 25-10, 25-15 Thursday, August 27.

"The girls were excited to be playing their first home match of the season and happy to see a lot of fans in the stands that had come out to show their support," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller. "We lost a big lead in the first set, but we held on to win the set and then settled down and took the match in three."

Engadine Eagles Third During

Pellston Volleyball Invite

The Engadine Eagles finished third during the Pellston Volleyball Invitational Saturday, August 29.

The Eagles registered a 5-3 record in pool play after sweeping Onaway 25-18 and 25-18 and Cheboygan 25-21 and 25-24, split with Harbor Springs 15-25 and 25-23, and fell to Kingsley 17-25 and 21-25.

During the semifinals Engadine was defeated by the host Hornets 25-20, 17-25, and 10-15 and the Kingsley Stags were upended by Pellston for the championship.

"This was a very competitive tourney and I thought we proved to ourselves that we can compete with schools much larger than ours, but we've got a lot of work to do in order to meet the goals of our teams that we have set for this year," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller.

The Pickford Panthers defeated league rival Cedarville Trojans 25- 20, 25-8, 25-13 during an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference match Thursday, August 27.

Pickford defeated Wolverine 25-13 and 25-13, but fell to Onaway 21-25 and 17-25 during a tri-match in Onaway Tuesday, August 25.

The DeTour Raiders defeated Rudyard 25-14, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-22 during non-league volleyball matches Thursday, August 27.

"The seniors have been together since junior high and have instilled a positive attitude for the team. This has been a huge difference in the play of the girls," said Raiders Coach Sara Galarowic.

Raiders statistics: Kiah Barbeaux, 15 points, eight kills; Abby Stocking, 10 points, four kills; Brooke Tiefenbach, 12 points; Jessie Kelleghan, 18 assists; Darci Wilson, five kills, four blocks; Nicole Melcer, five kills, three blocks.

Rudyard Bulldogs finished with a 2-8 overall record during the Inland Lakes Invitational Saturday, August 29.

The Bulldogs split with Harbor Springs 21-15, 25-21 and Gaylord St. Mary 25-21, 21-25 and fell to Sault Ste. Marie 24- 25, 21-25, Cheboygan 17-25, 7- 25, and Boyne City 22-25, 20-25.

Bulldogs statistics: Emily Jeffreys, 18 kills; Leah Wallis, 20 digs; Liz Schroeder, 100% serving (17 of 17).

Trojans Finish With 5-9 Record

at Sault Invite; Jenna Arnold

Named to All-Tourney Team

The Cedarville Trojans finished with a 5-9 overall record at the Sault Ste. Marie volleyball invitational Saturday, August 22.

The Trojans defeated Rudyard 21-18 and 21-7, St. Ignace 21-14 and 21-15, split with Rogers City 14-21 and 21-13, and lost to Petoskey 10-21 and 17-21, Houghton 14-21 and 14-21, Sault Ste. Marie 11-21 and 14-21 in pool play. The Trojans fell to the host Blue Devils 16- 25 and 12-25 in bracket play.

"I saw some positive things with the hustle play and the girls never gave up," said Trojans Coach Kathy Trevarrow.

Trojans statistics: Jenna Arnold, who was named to the all-tourney team, recorded 31 kills, three aces, three block kills; Jillian Collins, 53 assists, four aces, one kill; Hope Wittmus, seven kills, six aces; Stacy Moss, six kills, one block kill; Danielle Weaver, six kills, one ace; Rebecca Dowdell, four aces, three kills, one block kill; Logan Smith, three aces, three kills.

Cedarville fell to Pickford during an Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference match 20- 25, 8-25, 13-25 Thursday, August 27.

Trojans statistics: Stacy Moss, eight assists, two kills, one block kill; Jenna Arnold, four kills; Hope Wittmus, three kills, two aces; Logan Smith, two kills; Rebecca Dowdell, one kill.

Cearville’s next varsity invitational will be Saturday, September 12 at Petoskey.
