A group of bridge officials pose for a picture with the 150 millionth motorist Sunday, September 6, near the toll plaza in St. Ignace. Pictured are Executive Secretary of the Mackinac Bridge Bob Sweeney (from left), motorist Richard Snyder, bridge authority board members Patrick Gleason and Barbara Brown, and the first executive secretary of the bridge, Larry Rubin (seated). The Mackinaw City and St. Ignace Chambers of Commerce presented Mr. Snyder with a basket full of fudge, apparel, vacation packages, retail certificates, ferry passes, and other gifts. He said he has been crossing the bridge for a long time and remembers taking the ferries across even before it was built. A very surprised Richard Snyder exits his car and receives a warm welcome to the Upper Penninsula Sunday, September 6, as the 150 millionth motorist crossing the Mackinac Bridge. Mr. Snyder, who was on his way from his home in Clare to a family campsite in Rock Lake, Ontario, said he was just wondering when the milestone would be reached.
