Schrader Wins Fund the Future Raffle
Imogene Schrader of Cedarville won $9,062 in a 50/50 raffle Saturday, September 5, at Cedarville Waterfront Park. The raffle, sponsored by Fund the Future, was to give away a 2009 Dodge truck, however, not enough tickets were sold to pay for the cost of the truck. Fund the Future organizer Brianna Freel said 725 tickets were sold since May, short of the 1,500 needed. Tickets were sold for $25 apiece at many Les Cheneaux businesses.
Mrs. Schrader was not present when her winning-ticket was selected, and was informed by telephone that she had won. She said she would use her winnings to help needy people.
The fundraiser raised an equal amount for the Fund the Future campaign to benefit the Les Cheneaux Community School district, which was found to have $99,000 shortfall in its 2008-09 budget last November. The campaign effort was created to collect money for the district through community activities and events.
Including the raffle, more than $62,000 has been raised since December.
"I couldn't have asked for a better result," Mrs. Freel said about Mrs. Schrader, a longtime school employee. "She's an amazing woman... She has a heart of gold."
