St. Ignace Women Collect Used Books

A group of St. Ignace women is collecting used books to be distributed to homebound and elderly residents between St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie. Organizer Jennifer Saldivar said the group is willing to pick up books from homes to be redistributed, and have set up a drop-off point in St. Ignace at 278 Keightley Street where people can donate their books.

The group is accepting books from "anybody in St. Ignace who has books they don't want. Anybody who wants to donate," she said.

She said the 10 women in the club, all wives of Coast Guard members in town, are avid readers and wanted to contribute to the community.

"We thought it might be nice for people who aren't able to get to the library," she said. "It was just a group of us ladies getting together and deciding to do something for the community."

The group is contacting assisted living care facilities and churches to spread the word that used books are available for distribution. Anyone wanting to donate, volunteer, or have books delivered to them can contact Ms. Saldivar at (906) 984- 2000 or Suzanne Zinnkosko at (860) 685-1661.
