Classmates from the Farmington High School Class of 1946 are in town this week. They’ve returned to St. Ignace, as they have for many years, for an annual reunion, and gathered here September 15. Classmate Art Orofino, an organizer of the gathering, said it’s not many classes who can claim a 63-year reunion, and that his high school class is an especially close-knit group. They find St. Ignace their favorite reunion site, he said, and have made some friends in town and will continue to gather here each year. Attending this year are Mr. Orofino, Margaret Brown, June Grace, Ethel Mae and Sam Bragalone, Bob and Ann Miller, Sally and Bill Dix, Martha Eschenweck, Concetta and Stan Pirozek, Ed and Mary Sapienz, John Brennan, Ted and Marge Kohlman, Norm Potts and Joan Jamieson, Jean and Sandy Branzei, Katherine and Howard Miller, Steve and Charlotte Bruce, Pat Dix, and Jack and Jean Brown.

Meeting with Joan (nee Tarnutzer) McClelland and Tom Cardiff of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Joan and I laughed a lot of times we spent growing up at Gros Cap School. We especially remember Mr. Robert Buchholz standing on his head drinking a soda pop, just to amaze the children. He taught seventh and eighth grades and also was our principal.

Last week I received by mail a couple of books from a kindhearted classmate, Patricia Brooks of Scottsdale, Arizona. After a phone conversation, she decided that “Gifts of Sisterhood,” published by Patty, would be appropriate reading material for me.
