Annual Albany Trail Ride Begins in DeTour Saturday
The third annual Albany Trail Ride to benefit children attending Camp Quality will be Saturday, September 19, at the Albany Restaurant in DeTour. Owner of the restaurant Karen Bennett said 38 people have registered for the 20- mile horseback ride along Lake Huron, up two from last year.
Riders will leave the restaurant at 10 a.m., riding 10 miles east into the woods to have a cookout and campfire and then 10 miles back. Riders are coming from all over the state, including the Flint, Claire, Sault Ste. Marie, and Manistee areas. Riders pay $50 to participate in the ride as well as collect pledges from individuals and businesses to raise funds for the camp. Last year the ride raised $7,900 for the Boyne City camp that benefits young cancer patients. Mrs. Bennett hopes to exceed that amount.
"I hope everybody enjoys themselves," she said. "It's going to be hard to tell how much money will be raised with the way the economy is."
Those who would like to be notified for next year's Albany Trail Ride may contact Karen Bennett at (906) 297-8321. Riders must bring their own horses to participate.
