Beaudoin Wins Hospital Raffle
      Lucy Beaudoin won the Mackinac Straits Health System Foundation 50/50 raffle, taking home $1,271. Her ticket was drawn during the Mackinac Bridge Walk Monday, September 7, from among 3,000 sold since mid-July.

Merchberger Wins Salmon Derby
      Mark Merchberger of Cedarville took the top prize Saturday, August 29, at the Slammin' Salmon Derby in Hessel with a 14.4- pound salmon that won him $1,000. Mr. Merchberger also caught the largest steelhead trout, weighing in at 15.6 pounds, winning him an additional $250. His boat, Reel Wild, also caught the five largest fish, based on total weight, winning his crew an additional $500.

Frazier, Steinbrecher
      Carla Frazier of Naubinway and Scott Steinbrecher of Felch were united in marriage Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the groom’s home, with Pastor Carl Hammer officiating. The bride is the daughter of Carl and Sally Frazier of Naubinway. She was escorted down the aisle by her father and her daughter, Heather Crawford.

Pair of Raffles Raises $7,000 for Les Cheneaux Museums
Top Winners Are Mongene, Novak
      Pat Mongene of Cedarville was the winner of the Les Cheneaux Historical Association's annual quilt raffle. She was announced as the winner Sunday, September 6, to receive a quilt made by the Les Cheneaux Quilters Guild called "Nautical Pinwheel" because of its pinwheel design and sailboat printed edges.

Hagan Deploys to Afghanistan
      Michael W. Hagan, a Command Sergeant Major in the United States Army, has recently been deployed to Afghanistan for a one to two year tour of combat duty as the senior non-commissioned officer in the 82nd Airborne Division.

      Caleb Stempki Dustin and Jennifer Stempki of Engadine are enjoying the arrival of their first child, Caleb James Stempki, born at 2:58 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital. He weighed 7 pounds, 9.4 ounces at birth and measured 18.25 inches in length.

King’s 8th Regiment Marches Into Colonial Michilimackinac
      Joining the fort interpreters of Colonial Michilimackinac Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, is the King’s 8th Regiment, a reenactment group representing a military unit that was stationed in the straits during the latter half of the 1700s. The King’s 8th allows visitors to catch a glimpse of military life during the colonial period.

      Navy Seaman Apprentice Timothy Switzer, Jr., son of Michelle and Tim Switzer of Sault Ste. Marie, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. He is a 2009 graduate of Rudyard High School of Rudyard.

      Jenna Aho was graduated from Central Michigan University July 24 with a Master’s degree in physician assistant studies. Miss Aho also earned an Associate’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in science technology, both from Northern Michigan University.
