King’s 8th Regiment Marches Into Colonial Michilimackinac

2009-09-24 / Social

Joining the fort interpreters of Colonial Michilimackinac Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, is the King’s 8th Regiment, a reenactment group representing a military unit that was stationed in the straits during the latter half of the 1700s. The King’s 8th allows visitors to catch a glimpse of military life during the colonial period.

The King’s 8th reenactment group will consist of eight to 10 reenactors who will occupy the Guard House and showcase the typical daily activities of the King’s 8th while they were at Michilimackinac. The group’s main emphasis will be cooking, crafts, equipment repair, and cleaning.

“Although these activities sound mundane at first, they offer a surprisingly real life glimpse into Michilimackinac soldier life,” said Daniel O’Connell, lead coordinator for the King’s 8th. “Visitors get to see what an occupied guard house looks like.”
