Pat Mongene of Cedarville was the winner of the Les Cheneaux Historical Association's annual quilt raffle. She was announced as the winner Sunday, September 6, to receive a quilt made by the Les Cheneaux Quilters Guild called "Nautical Pinwheel" because of its pinwheel design and sailboat printed edges.

Annegret Goehring of Hessel was the second place winner, winning a set of towels and a cookbook, and Amy Polk of Cedarville was the third place winner, winning a set of potholders and a cookbook.

The queen-size quilt was made by Pat Smith, Barb Smith, Annegret Goehring, Donna House, Donna Beatty, and Roxanne Large of the quilters guild between January and April. Tickets for the raffle were on sale between June and Labor Day weekend, with all proceeds going to the Historical Association. The quilt raffle raised $2,282.

The winner of a hand-made canoe to benefit the Historical Association was Ted Novak of Waverly, Tennessee, who vacations in Les Cheneaux every spring.

The canoe was built over the past year at the Les Cheneaux Maritime Museum by Paul Wilson of Hessel, who received help from Bob Smith of Cedarville. The canoe raffle raised $4,980 for the Historical Association, which operates both the Les Cheneaux Maritime and Historical museums in Cedarville.
