Brevort
A small gray Yaris pulled into the drive and a tall man unfolded out of the seat and extended his hand saying, “Ted Johansen.” He hasn’t changed so much, a little less hair, gray and curly, same smile as when he was pastor of the Lutheran church in St. Ignace years ago. When Ted wrote to The
St. Ignace News
earlier this year about his memories of the area, it brought back a lot of memories. I remember enjoying his sermons more when he accidentally left it on the desk at the parsonage and had to make one up as he drove along US-2 to Brevort’s Trinity Lutheran Church. Also there were times we didn’t have an organist and Ted brought his guitar to accompany our voices. We could just sit back and let Ted sing without us, his voice was so rich and resonate. We had a good visit Monday morning, September 28, in our driveway in Brevort.
Dr. Marlene Mackie, a veterinarian in the Escanaba area, was a guest this past weekend at the home of Lorie Quigley and Joe Stewart. Joe flew in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Saturday evening, September 26.
Dennie and Jackie Rippett spent the weekend in Calumet with their granddaughter, Kara Sokol. They drove to Copper Harbor with gray skies threatening rain. Jackie and Dennie attended the Methodist Church in Hancock Sunday, September 27, where the daughter of good friends is the minister.
It’s always an adventure to shop at the Rogers’ garden. The Pontiac red potatoes are so good baked, boiled, fried, and organic. The celery is tall and green. Jackie puts the celery in pots and keeps it over the winter. There is an abundance of green leaf lettuce.
Pega Kennedy and Sharon Smith attended the annual Thrivent meeting at McGowan’s in Trout Lake Saturday, September 26. It was an informative meeting, and Sharon took first prize in a game.
Pat and Gordon Knight have returned home after spending three weeks downstate. Petey, the peacock, was there to welcome them back.
The O’Boyle kids are all back in school. Katelynn is at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Kyle is at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, and Lawrence is a sophomore at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace. Janice has been putting up apples in sauce, pie slices plus pears, all grown on the trees in their yard.
Levi Rogers was hunting with his grandfather, Larry First, this past weekend at a youth hunting event.
There are no deer to be seen, is the complaint by many who ride around the woods looking for deer.
Happy anniversary to Ray and Shari Baron October 11.
