St. Ignace
Saturday, September 19, was a fun time for folks who gathered at the home of Rick Ledy on Black Point Road in Moran for a country barn night. There was a chili contest, an old-fashioned hayride with two horses, good food, and a bonfire.
It was nice to chat with Jean Huskey and her daughter, Pam Sutton, of Kinross.
Kathy (nee Cronan) Feher, a 1969 graduate of LaSalle High School, would like to remind classmates of the homecoming football game Friday, October 2, where they will gather. Following the game a cookout will be hosted by Kathy at 1245 South State Street, the former Cronan residence. Classmates will meet Saturday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Arnold Line dock, where they will take a cruise at 7 p.m. Bob Brown arranged the boat ride, and donations will be appreciated to help cover costs of expenses. For more information, call (810) 624-3624.
Ruth Paquin of the Red Hat Society would like to remind everyone of the group’s indoor flea market Friday, October 16, starting at noon, and Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Souvenir Barn, across from Mc- Donald’s restaurant in St. Ignace. Vendors interested still have time to join by calling Ruth at (906) 298-2172 or (906) 298-2173. The Red Hat Society will have a bake sale Saturday, October 17, at the Souvenir Barn.

Milton Smith of Westland passed away Tuesday, September 22. He had been ill for a few years. Burial was at Gros Cap Cemetery. He is an uncle to Don Lawson and brother to Don’s mother, the late Harriett Lawson. While he was in good health, Mr. Smith and his wife, Marilyn, made many trips to the St. Ignace area visiting family and friends.
Happy birthday to Elizabeth Krause September 30 and Darlene Therrian October 3.
Dick and Darlene Therrian will celebrate their wedding anniversary October 9.
As I read the book “Gifts of Sisterhood,” written by former St. Ignace resident Patty (nee Cronan) Brooks, it is very rewarding as my only dear sister and friend, Hazel (nee Smith) Decker, passed away Tuesday, September 22, unexpectedly just four days before her niece, Diane Blair, was to be married to Troy Huskey in St. Ignace. She and her husband, Joe, were en route to Davison, where their son, Jim, wife, Michelle, and grandchildren, Chloe and Chelsea, reside. My sister grew up in Gros Cap, where she attended school, and was graduated from LaSalle High School in 1963.
Paula McCrory tells me she had a visitor over truck show weekend. Ken Belonga, who grew up in St. Ignace, now a resident of Ocala, Florida, was happy to see the McCrory family.
Friends and family will help Georgiana Gustafson of St. Ignace celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday, October 4, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care. Friends and family will join Mrs. Gustafson in Dining Room 3 for cake and refreshments.
