Walk Raises $1,800 for Diabetes Education

Walkers pose for a photograph Saturday, September 12, during St. Ignace's first Walk for Diabetes at American Legion Park. About 15 walkers took part, raising $1,800 in pledge donations, $1,600 of which will be held by Mackinac Straits Hospital's diabetic education department for testing supplies for diabetics and to help pay for diabetic education classes. Pictured are (back row, from left) Paul Grondin, Larry Lasley, Margaret Peacock, Mary Swiderski, Bill Alatalo, Becky Barr, Robin Pavia, Carol Elmblad; (front row) Lori Reardon, Sue St. Louis, Lauren Yoder, and Olivia Luepnitz. Mrs. Elmblad, the organizer and a diabetes educator at the hospital, said she thought the event did well for its first year.
