Jean Tomlinson

Jean Tomlinson Jean Tomlinson Jean A. Tomlinson, 79, of Drummond Island, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.

She was born August 23, 1930, in Spratt to Russell Alfred and Olive Mae (nee Sutton) Socia.

Drummond Island has been Mrs. Tomlinson’s home since she was 11 years old. She worked as a clerk at Sune's Grocery for more than 30 years and then worked with her husband, Robert, in their house painting business. Since 1979, they have lived in Florida each winter. They were married December 31, 1971.

She was a member of the Drummond Island Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Tomlinson and her husband loved to travel and went on many cruises and bus tours, visiting 41 of the 50 states. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and looking for bargains.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Tomlinson; two daughters and their families, Sharon and Ali Sadegh of Huntington Beach, California, and Beverly Jo and Bill Pennington of Arcanum, Ohio; two grandsons and their families, Sheldon and Tammara Hoyt and Billy Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Noah, and Leah Hoyt. Mrs. Tomlinson is also survived by four sisters and their families, Donna and Earl Bailey of Drummond Island, Blanche Kott of Morrice, Ruth and Hollis Gedvick of Felch, and Verna and Murray Fountain of DeTour Village; one brother, Robert Socia of Howell, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick Fisher; a son, William “Billy” Fisher; and by one brother, Louis Socia.

Services were Tuesday, September 29, at Drummond Island Lutheran Church. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon with the funeral at noon.

Burial was in the Drummond Island Cemetery. Alex Fisher, Ron Bailey, Hal Burton, Sheldon Hoyt, Bruce Merrifield, and Ed Kott served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be directed to the Drummond Island Lutheran Church.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
