Verona and John McCarthy (McCarthy family photograph) Verona and John McCarthy, formerly of Pickford and Sault Ste. Marie, now living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Wednesday, October 28.

An early celebration was held at a family reunion in July at the home of their son, Mike McCarthy, in Eau Claire. Family members and friends attended from Virginia, Massachusetts, Michigan, California, and Wisconsin. All of their three children, eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren were in attendance, as well as a niece and nephew from Michigan.

A special surprise was the arrival of Mr. McCarthy’s brother and sisters, Howard McCarthy of Pickford, Gladys Carmean of St. Ignace, Audrey Handziak of Dafter and Ohio, and Irene Doepker of Carson City.
