Eng adine Co ns o lidated Schools

By Angie McArthur Superintendent

Next week, students in grades three through eight begin taking the Michigan Educational Assess - ment Program (MEAP) test. This assessment is required by the state of Michigan, and measures whether a student learned and retained the grade-level objectives from the prior year. Parents can help their student by ensuring they have a good night’s sleep and breakfast. Studies show that students who eat breakfast learn better. Anyone interested in providing a healthy snack for their child’s class may contact the teacher.

The public is invited to the “Dig Pink” volleyball game Thursday, October 8, at 6 p.m., when the Engadine Eagles take on the Newberry Indians. Pro ceeds from this game benefit breast cancer research. Besides watching a great game between these two teams, there will be information available and activities about raising awareness of breast cancer.

We do not have school next Friday, October 16. Teachers will attend a day of professional improvement sponsored by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Inter - mediate School District.

Livermore, Moore

Named Students of Week

Lester Livermore and Brooke Moore have been named students of the week.

Mr. Livermore is a sophomore at Engadine High School this year. In class he has not only been an excellent worker, but also a great help to his classmates. Every day he comes to class ready to work, with a smile and a great attitude, his teachers say. He expects high grades and works to achieve them. He is aware of his classmates and works to keep the class on task and to keep their behavior in line.

Miss Moore is the middle school student of the week. She is in seventh grade and is currently in the wood technology lab class. She is a quiet, conscientious student who is doing extremely well this year. She has high expectations of her own work and regularly meets or exceeds them, her teachers report. She is extremely helpful to other students who may need assistance and is always cooperative. Her positive, yet assertive manner benefits everyone who works around her.
