Mackinaw City To Get Clinic
St. Ignace Hospital To Open Facility Next Month
      Residents of Mackinaw City will finally have a medical clinic in the village, once renovations are complete at the Citizens National Bank building at 580 South Nicolet Street. The new clinic, owned and operated by Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, hopes to open its doors by November 15 and will provide basic health care service to patients by appointment and walkin.

Pickford Event To Aid Library
      For the second year, Friends of the Pickford Community Library is hosting a community-wide fall festival with proceeds benefitting the development of a public library in Pickford. People are expected to travel miles to participate in festival events that are synonymous with the season, including decorating pumpkins and sipping hot apple cider.

Budget Decisions Delayed in State
      Funding for Michigan's schools, libraries, prison system, and health programs hangs in the balance as lawmakers have given themselves 30 more days to pass a balanced state budget. Failing to meet their deadline of October 1, the state's elected officials pushed their time limit back to Saturday, October 31.

St. Ignace Traps Removed for Study
      Jonathan Carlson and Anne Collins of Michigan Technological University removed the purple Emerald Ash Borer traps hanging in trees throughout downtown St. Ignace and in residential areas Tuesday, September 22, and Wednesday, September 23, for further study. The 26 traps were placed as part of a university experiment testing a new insect bait, Mr. Carlson said.

‘Biggest Loser’ Stars Shares Experiences, Prepares for Saturday Run
      Helen Phillips, winner of "The Biggest Loser" season 7 television show, will participate in the first Fall Colors Bridge Race across the Mackinac Bridge Saturday, October 10. Registration will cost $40 at the Mackinaw City Visitors Bureau or online at its Web site until Thursday, October 8, at midnight.

EUP Wind Energy Research Continues
      A year-long study monitoring wind patterns on the Raber and DeTour township border to possibly build a wind turbine farm is nearing completion. The study conducted by the City of Holland Board of Public Works (BPW) east of Goetzville will culminate at the end of October.

Mackinaw City Council Appoints Michalak as Trustee
      A trustee vacancy left by Jeff Hingston's election as village president was quickly filled with Paul Michalak during the Thursday, October 1, Mackinaw City Village Council meeting. The council also appointed a president pro tempore, turned down a resident's right-ofway abandonment request, and examined the results of a village audit during the packed meeting.
