Billy Logan
Billy D. Logan, 87, of Pickford, was a U.S. Navy veteran who went on to a lifetime career in the engineering field. He was a handyman who was always building and doing maintenance projects for himself and neighborhood families. Mr. Logan could fix anything and was known as a perfectionist. He died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at his home.
He was born November 8, 1921, in Wilson County, Kansas to Russell D. and Ollie (nee Crumley) Logan.
Mr. Logan grew up in Wilson County, Kansas, and worked in a grocery store during high school. After high school graduation, he joined the Navy and received training in tool engineering from the University of Kansas. When he returned from the service, he went to work for Sinclair Oil in Independence, Kansas, where he learned engineering for the oil industry. Mr. Logan transferred to Bristow, Oklahoma, in 1954 and to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, retiring there in 1981.
In 2005, he and his wife moved to Pickford to be close to their family.
Mr. Logan was a member of the Chippewa County Shooting Asso - ciation and First Wesleyan Church. He was previously a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed collecting antiques, woodworking, and restoring furniture.
He is survived by a sister, Marjorie Orr of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter and her family, Patricia and Albert Gonzales of Pickford; one granddaughter and her family, Connie and Larry Hedberg of Pickford; a grandson, William Sincerbox of Salinas, California, and a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Hedberg of Pickford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, who died April 28, 2008; a brother, Wayne Logan, and a brother-in-law, Murray Orr.
Inurnment will take place at Neodesha City Cemetery in Neodesha, Kansas.
Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
