Village Workers Make Mackinaw City Beautiful

To the Editor:

Beginning with the very capable leadership and vision of Mackinaw City’s manager, Jeff Lawson, and continuing with the dedicated efforts of all of the village workers, our town is simply a nice, progressive place to live. I should also include as part of the team the village clerk and all other personnel at the Village Hall who always go out of their way to be helpful.

Two people in particular deserve recognition from all village residents. Frank Smith, who drives the motorized vacuum cleaner and street sweeper, takes a very protective interest in his village streets. Daily he sweeps leaves and debris from all streets, curb to curb. Every block looks clean and fresh.

In a like manner, Dwight Krueger maintains one of the nicest, most attractive cemeteries in the north. Trees and shrubs are trimmed, grass is mowed, and flowers are fertilized and watered on a regular, daily basis. Recently, three family members from California and Florida met here to visit their family grave site. They were surprised and pleased to find such a beautiful and tranquil place in a natural setting.

While many others also contribute to make this “our town,” I want to call attention to Frank and Dwight for their continuing daily personal efforts, above and beyond the call of duty. It is appreciated.
