Sandy Krause Earns 2009 LHS Hall of Fame Induction

Sandy (nee Halberg) Krause, the second female athlete to score more than 1,000 career points at LaSalle High and a member of the St. Ignace Saints Upper Peninsula state volleyball championship team, will be inducted into the LaSalle High School (LHS) Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies at Kewadin Shores Casino Saturday, October 17, at 6 p.m.
The 1981 graduate of LHS earned 10 varsity letters, scored 1,092 points during her four varsity years on the basketball teams, and received numerous honors while the Saints compiled a 76-11 overall record. It included two district titles in 1977 and 1980. St. Ignace recorded a 20-2 record in 1977, 19-3 in 1978, 18- 2 in 1979, and 19-4 in 1980.
The most valuable player in her senior season on the basketball court, she received Michigan Huron Shores All-Conference honors in two of her four years on the varsity team.
Mrs. Krause was a member of two volleyball teams at LHS that registered 42-4 overall records during her junior and senior years.
During the 1979-80 season, the Saints were 19-3, won the Michigan Huron Shores Conference title, the regional crown with victories over Pickford 15-1 and 15-5, Brimley 15-4 and 15-8, and Newberry 15-4, 11-15, and 15-1, and swept the Bessemer Speedboys 15-6 and 15-11 for the Upper Peninsula State championship.
She earned Michigan Huron Shores honors during her senior season, when the Saints won the Michigan Huron Shores Conference title for the second consecutive season.
Mrs. Krause and her husband, Joe, have two children, Anna, a freshman at Saginaw Valley State University, and Joseph, a freshman at LaSalle High School.
