Brevort
Monday, October 12, was a gloomy day. The dog didn’t even want to go out. I miss our Detroit Tigers. We didn’t have any trick or treaters last year at Halloween and we don’t expect any this year, although Dave and I bought our favorite candy, just in case we have to eat it.
Belated 50th anniversary congratulations to Duane and Shirley Keestra of Big Brevoort Lake. The couple celebrated with friends and family Friday, September 25. They’ve lived on Brevoort Lake for 20 years.
People visiting the Brevort area the past two weeks were Frank and Mary Lou Hogan, Jim and Kathy Christopher, and Sally Conklin. Denny and Jackie hosted a wine and cheese party for friends and neighbors at their condominium Thursday, October 1.

Joe and Sharon Chalmers have returned home after a two-week vacation to Chicago. They met their son, Lee, who arrived from Portland, Oregon, via Amtrak. After getting in touch with old friends, the Chalmers traveled on to Ann Arbor to visit with their daughter, Lisa, and more friends plus a baby shower for Sharon’s niece. Joe and Sharon took the western route home through Wisconsin and stopped at the Wisconsin Dells. Sharon says it’s good to be home.
Congratulations to the St. Ignace eighth grade volleyball team. They remain undefeated in all of the season’s invitational volleyball tournaments.
Charlie and Gayle Lamoreaux are home after a month of traveling through the West Coast and other places. They took the ferry from Bellingham, Washington, to Juneau, Alaska. While on the ferry they met people from Charlevoix and Drummond Island. The party from Drummond Island knew Kenny Smith. What a small world. Gayle and Charlie spent a week visiting with Pastor Tari, Kirt, Hannah, Sophie, and Elijah Stage- Harvey. Gayle reports the Lutheran church there is young, vibrant, and busy. The Mendenhall Glacier is practically in the Stage- Harvey’s backyard. There is much hiking by people in the household. Gayle and Charlie returned home to Pte. Aux Chenes last Tuesday. Welcome home.
John Kennedy has built a winter home for Petey, the peacock. He will put it up on posts.

Dave and I, along with Dave, Jr. joined Tracy for a chicken barbecue Friday, October 9, at Wheeler Motors in Cheboygan for the benefit of breast cancer research.
Jack and Thora Shepard have returned home from a visit with Paul and Tammy Shepard and their sons, Ethan and Dylan, of Sanger, California. They stopped in Las Vegas for three days, then spent the next week with Paul and Tammy and the boys. While there, they celebrated Dylan’s first birthday. Jack and Paul hiked into the Sierra Mountains to do a bit of fly fishing. On the way back was another stop in Las Vegas. They were able to get tickets to Cher’s show, which was fabulous, they said, as was Caesar’s Palace, whey they stayed.
Tom and Taffy Coffey’s grandson, Jake Fortman, was homecoming king at Perry High School in Perry. Molly Lamoreaux spent Friday night at the Coffey beach house. Kirt and Laura Liebengood were weekend visitors Saturday and Sunday at the cottage.
