Rudyard
Our community was saddened to hear that Army Specialist Christopher Griffin from Kincheloe, a 2004 graduate of Rudyard High School, died October 3 when militants attacked him and his fellow soldiers. Eight soldiers died in the attack. Kinross Township will honor Specialist Griffin’s memory by naming a street after him, and giving him a veterans memorial, cemetery plot, and a plaque.
Principal Mark Pavloski, who was Christopher’s algebra teacher a few years back, remarked on what a quiet and hardworking young man he was.
“Christopher was a Packers fan, and we would talk about that during down times,” Mr. Pavloski also recalled.
As a student, Christopher participated in junior varsity football and also wrestled for one year. He helped coach youth wrestling, and those who knew him have said he was just an all-around good young man. Services will be Wednesday, October 14, at 2 p.m. at the Rudyard school. Donations for the family are being accepted at Kinross Township Hall.
This sign will mark a Kinross Township street in memory of a local fallen soldier, Army Specialist Christopher Griffin.
Mr. Griffin’s obituary and a related story are published in this issue of The St. Ignace News.
Upcoming school events include a chili cook-off and a play.
The booster club is still looking for people to make chili for the upcoming chili cook-off, now set for Friday, October 23, at the varsity football game. The competition will begin at 6 p.m. Participants can bring their chili to the concession stand to have it judged. Those interested may call Ryan Fountain at (906) 495-5533, or a booster club member. All proceeds will go to the booster club, and the winner will be awarded $25.
