Library Installs New Display Case

The Les Cheneaux Community Library installed a new art display case and frame hanging system July 27. The display case was built by Les Cheneaux Community School seniors Trent Pitko, 17, Cody Grove, 17, and instructor Gary Wellnitz at a cost of $1,130, and the tracks, totaling $859, were installed by Jack Otstot.

Funding for the display case was provided to the Les Cheneaux Community Library through a majority donation from Walter Shapero, with the remainder coming from a donation by the Friends of the Les Cheneaux Community Library and a grant from the Mary Shapero Memorial Fund, via the Les Cheneaux Community Foundation. Mrs. Shapero was a former head of development for the Friends of the Detroit Public Library. The wood and glass case is taller and narrower than the case previously used, and has adjustable shelving to better accommodate larger works of art.

Donations from the Friends of the Library and Les Cheneaux Area Artisans Cooperative, combined with a grant from the Community Foundation also allowed the library to install a frame hanging system around the majority of the main library room and around a small reading room. The half-inch track installed in the reading room was paid for entirely through a donation from the Artisans Co-op. Both tracks allow artwork to hang art more securely.
