‘Spooky Science’ Hosted at Schools

Mackinac County 4-H is hosting Spooky Science Family Night in St. Ignace, Cedarville, and Engadine. The science nights are scheduled at area schools from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on the following schedule: Thursday, October 15, at St. Ignace Area Schools; Monday, October 19, at Engadine Consolidated Schools; Wednesday, October 28, at Les Cheneaux Community Schools.

Participants will learn about biofuels by converting organic matter into energy. The experiment offers several activities to showcase how cellulose and sugars in plants can be used to create ethanol. Families will also be introduced to the science of polymers by making glow worms, a slimy mixture with a special coloring agent that fluoresces under black light.
