Henry Dombroski

Henry John Dombroski of Cheboygan died Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at the age of 87. Mr. Dombroski was a former JI Hass painting foreman on the Mackinac Bridge and operated Dombroski Farms.

He was born September 15, 1922, to Jacob and Stephanie Dombroski and lived his entire life in the Cheboygan area, where he made a home with his wife of 60 years, Patricia (nee Bonnett).

Following his work on the Mackinac Bridge he was part owner of Stachon and Dombroski Painting while operating a dairy, potato, and Christmas tree farm. For many years, he donated the community Christmas tree to the City of Mackinac Island, where his son, Dennis, serves as zoning administrator. In later years, while still operating Dombroski Farms, he also sold insurance, continuing in that profession until two years ago, and served as a Mullett Township trustee for several decades.

Mr. Dombroski was an avid outdoorsman and followed closely or participated in the activities of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters and their families, Dennis and Diane and their children, Jessica, Dan, Julia and Garth Law and the Laws' daughter, Eileen; Roger and Deborah and their children, Jeffery, Ryan, and Kimberly and Mark Coleman; Thomas and Marian of Whittemore and their children T. J. and Angie, Jacob and Rita, Heather and Scott Dexter, and the Dexters' daughter, Madilyn; Diane and Chuck Burgtorf and their son and family, Brian and Camille and children, Aleah, Bradley, and Rebecca; Nancy and Gordan Graham and their sons, Kevin and Christopher; Mark and Pamela and their daughter and family, Jennifer and Jacob Brandau and two children, Carrie and Scott; Susan and Fred Stempky and their children, Sarah, Julie, Amy, and Chrisy.

Also surviving are two sisters, Irene DesParois of Southgate and Celia Halloway of San Leandro, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Jessica, his four brothers, Joe, Anthony, Steven, and Stanley, and a sister, Jean.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, October 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville with the Reverend Paul Megge officiating.

Burial was at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Team Cheboygan in support of cheboygan area athletics for Cheboygan area children or the Sacred Heart Building Improvement Fund.
