Other Ferry Lines Are Available

To the Editor:

Kathy Wells’ letter to the editor in the October 8 issue of The St. Ignace News needs some correcting and clarifying. First, there was ferry service off the Island at 7:30 p.m., not 7 p.m. Second, the last I knew there were three ferry lines running to the Island from St. Ignace that weekend. Several groups of Republicans and their candidates did book with Star Line, which was providing midnight charters off the Island on both Friday and Saturday nights, September 25 and 26. At the very last minute, the bookings were canceled in favor of Shepler’s Ferry. Star Line would not back out of a commitment other than to consider customer safety. As a recent example, Star Line volunteered a boat at no charge to take Mackinac Night guests back to St. Ignace after the October 4 Island party at 11 p.m. I was a deckhand on the charter and we had three guests aboard.

If I didn’t know better in reading Kathy’s letter, I would think Shepler’s Ferry was the only ferry line in town.
