Brevort

By Lois Movalson 292-5581

There is a banner crop of apples this year. The wind is downing the apples as well as leaves of gold, red, and orange.

Murray Chalmers of Grass Lake has been visiting his brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sharon Chalmers of Brevort. Murray is a great cook and has shared his wonderful spaghetti sauce and bean soup with us. Luckily, I had carrot cake to share with the Chalmers family. Sunday, October 18, we all took a day off from slaving over a hot stove and enjoyed Allenville Zion Lutheran Church’s famous harvest dinner. Pega and John Kennedy, Sharon and Ken Smith, and Tracy Movalson and friends, Diane Quist and Dennis Verritt, of Sault Ste. Marie, also enjoyed the dinner.

Tom and Joyce Gustafson and Kristi and Morgan Gustafson attended the Canadian Hockey Cup competition at the George Foreman Arena in Detroit Saturday, October 17. Tom and Joyce’s granddaughter, Sarah Campbell, is a member of the NIHI Academy hockey team. The school is in Vermont. The first game was in Toronto, Ontario, then on to British Columbia. The third and last game was in Detroit. Along with April Lynn and Steve Campbell, Mary Beth and Fred Jasmund were at the arena cheering Sarah’s team on. The teams’s record stands at three wins, one tie, and one loss.

Please keep Joan Spencer and Susie Sharp in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with health problems.

Pega and John Kennedy and Mike and Lara Gustafson attended the Wild Turkey Federation dinner Saturday evening, October 17, in Engadine.

Jim Rose and Rick Weiss will hold services at the Chippewa County Correctional facility this coming weekend.

Bob and Linda Shepard and Tipper have returned to Batavia, New York, after a week’s visit with Jack and Thora Shepard. The Shepards celebrated Jack’s birthday with Mike and Helena Shepard at a restaurant in St. Ignace.

Guests at the Movalson beach house this past week were Julie Cherry and Larry Jent of Bozeman, Montana. Julie and Tracy Movalson have been close friends since their days at Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire. Larry is a criminal defense trial lawyer as well as a senator of the state of Montana, where he says the legislature of 50 senators and 100 representatives meets only 90 days every other year. Committees meet on a regular basis throughout the year to conduct the business of running a state with a population of 960,000. One congressman goes to Washington, D.C., to represent the biggest district in the United States. Twenty-five years ago, Larry read “Anatomy of a Murder” by John Volker and has a goal to fish the Two Hearted and Fox rivers in the Upper Peninsula. We told him that Dave’s sister, Marilyn Movalson DuMond, was an extra in that movie. He shared with us that he tried out for Brad Pitt’s double in “A River Runs Through It” but was picked as an extra. Coincidences! It was an interesting evening.

Happy birthday to Marilee Barthelemy October 24, Mike Gustafson and Kenny Smith October 25, Ann Dyer October 26, and Kristi Lynn Gustafson and Jeanne Rose October 27.

Don’t forget we will celebrate the Kenny Smith, Dot Glashaw, and Joyce Gustafson birthdays Saturday evening, October 24, at Hendricks Township Hall. Everyone is welcome.
