Stuart Hobbs

Stuart C. Hobbs of Naubinway, a former school administrator at Romulus, died Sunday morning, October 18, 2009, at his residence, following a prolonged illness.

He was born August 23, 1927, in Detroit, to Donald C. and Agnes (nee Robinson) Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs was a 1946 graduate of St. Alphonsus High School in Dearborn. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from July 19, 1946, to January 23, 1948, following which he attended the University of Michigan and Wayne State University on the G.I. Bill. He received a degree in science and education from Wayne State.

Mr. Hobbs began his career in education at Redford Township, first as a science teacher and then as a guidance counselor. After earning a master’s degree in school administration, he became a junior high school administrator with the Romulus school district, where he served until his retirement in 1984.

He then moved to Naubinway with his wife, Barbara (nee Shaw), who survives him.

Also surviving are four children and their families, Stuart L. and Meg Hobbs of Naubinway, Katharine and Larry Kelly of Brighton, Carrie Hobbs of Woodinville, Washington, and Christopher Hobbs of Alhambra, California; a brother and his family, John and Sandra Hobbs of Dearborn Heights, and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert P. Hobbs, and by two infant brothers.

Visitation will be at Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry Thursday, October 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with parish prayers at 6 p.m. A second visitation will be at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Naubinway Friday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Father Frank Ricca officiating.

Rite of Committal will take place at Naubinway Cemetery in Naubinway.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Maintenance Fund or to the Salvation Army of Southeast Michigan.
