For the Record

In an article entitled "St. Ignace School Leaders 'Encouraged' After Tour of Wood Heating Systems" in the October 15 issue of The St. Ignace News, it was reported that a study determined a wood chip boiler system would save the district $5,378 a year in heating costs. This figure is a misprint. The study actually determined that the new system would save the school $93,503 a year, after considering the $64,417 yearly cost to buy wood chips for the proposed system. Assuming the cost of constructing such a facility is $781,000 and factoring in operating costs for the new system and partial payments for natural gas for the back-up boilers, engineers calculated that the district would pay this cost back in savings after 10.5 years.
