Everson, Evashevski Are Named Students of the Month for LaSalle High School

Evan Everson Evan Everson Evan Everson and John Evashevski were named Students of the Month at LaSalle High School for September.

Evan Everson

Senior Evan Everson is the son of Jim and Kyle Everson. Mr. Everson has a 3.993 grade point average based on a four-point scale. Throughout high school, he has taken a college preparatory curriculum. His current schedule includes honors English, physics, anatomy, calculus, advanced physical education, and senior social studies. He assists Emily Fullerton’s middle school physical education class. His favorite subject is mathematics.

“Mr. Don Gustafson has been my most influential teacher because he is a really great teacher and he explains things very well,” Mr. Everson said.

He has been active in sports, earning three sport letters, and at the end of this year will have been a member of the football team, basketball team, and track team for four years. Last spring he qualified for the U.P. finals in track in four events. In the 200- meter run, he earned the state championship medal with a first place finish. He was a member of the 400 team that broke the U.P. record and the 800-meter relay team that tied the U.P. record. He was also a member of the 1600- meter relay team that took first place. He was selected by the track team as the most valuable player.

John Evashevski John Evashevski Academic achievement, along with character, service, and leadership, resulted in his selection to the National Honor Society last year. His classmates have selected him the past two years to serve as one of their class representatives on the student council.

Mr. Everson has been the recipient of multiple academic classroom awards presented at the yearly academic assembly. He has donated many hours of community service work, including projects at Little Bear East Arena. This fall he will help with the National Honor Society Red Cross Blood Drive and the Halloween community food drive.

During the summers he works at his parents’ furniture store. When not working he enjoys reading, hunting, and fishing.

While not yet decided on a college, he would like to run track and study engineering after high school.

Senior John Evashevski is the son of Tom and Debbie Evashevski.

Mr. Evashevski has a 3.959 grade point average based on a four-point scale. Throughout high school, he has taken a college preparatory curriculum. His schedule includes honors English, band, physics, anatomy, calculus, advanced physical education, and history. His favorite subject is mathematics.

He has been active in extracurricular activities. He has been a standout wrestler and football player for all of his four years in high school.

Leadership roles include being the captain of the wrestling team for two years. Leadership, character, service, and academic achievement were responsible for his selection to the National Honor Society. He has donated many hours to various community activities, including maintenance work at the museum, volunteer officiating at sports events, and helping with Jr. Saints wrestling programs.

“Mr. Don Gustafson is my most influential teacher because of his methods for teaching. He allows no notes on the test and makes sure you actually learn calculus,” Mr. Evashevski said.

He has won numerous year-end classroom awards and athletic awards. In wrestling he has finished first in the U.P. tournament two times. In the state individual competition, he was a regional qualifier as a 10th grade student and finished third overall last year. In 2008 he was selected as the team’s most valuable player. He received Upper Peninsula Academic Wrestling Honors and was awarded the Curly Nelson Citizenship Award at the Athletic Banquet last year.

Last summer, he worked at Everson’s Furniture Store. When not working, he enjoys fishing, hunting, all types of sports, and spending time with friends and family.

His plans after graduation are to attend the University of Michigan. He is undecided about his major and he plans to join the wrestling team.
