Brevort
Sixty-five friends, neighbors, and relatives gathered at Hendricks Township Fire Hall in Epoufette to celebrate the elders’ birthdays, Dottie Glashaw, Kenny Smith, and Joyce Gustafson, Saturday evening, October 24. It was a great party, and I have to say, 70 is the new 60, as all the birthday celebrants are so young looking.
Get well wishes to Charlotte DeShetler, as she fell on her deck and broke her ankle.
Jackie Liguzinski and the dachshunds, Lily and Lila, spent the weekend at their home in Brevort. They called on Sharon Chalmers Sunday evening, October 25, to watch the movie, “China Town.”
Friends and relatives gathered at the home of Michael and Lara Gustafson Sunday evening, October 25, to celebrate Michael and Kristi Gustafson’s birthdays. It was also Terry Hoeft’s birthday. He and Priscilla enjoyed a weekend at their condominium in Brevort.
I called Delores Riege Saturday, October 24. She still lives in Wausau, Wisconsin. This community has many fond memories of when she and her husband, Dave, served Trinity Lutheran Church. Dave was one of the first graduates of the Lutheran Lay School on the Northern Great Lakes Synod.
Kathy Reid has a cardinal at her bird feeder and is hoping he will stick around. The chickadees and finches are back, looking for handouts.
Jim Rogers is turning up the garden. Most of the crop has been harvested. I got a few potatoes, carrots, and celery before it was too late. The hens are still laying.
Jack and Thora Shepard attended Tina Champion’s 40th birthday party Saturday evening, October 24, in St. Ignace. Happy birthday, Tina.
Sharon and Kenny Smith have closed the Brevort Motel for the season.
Trapping season is open. Mark Spencer, the elder, found a wolf in his coyote trap Saturday, October 24. The Department of Natural Resources came out, slipped a tracking collar on it, and released the animal. Mark moved his trap about a mile away, but upon checking Sunday morning, October 25, the same wolf was again caught in the same trap. He was released, hopefully never to be “trapped” again.
Ray Baron traveled to Mississippi to visit his and Shari’s son and granddaughter last week. Shari is still in Livonia caring for her mother. When Ray got back to Livonia, he and Shari celebrated their 40th anniversary.
The men of Trinity Lutheran Church, with help from Russ Nesberg and Eric, Michael, and Tyler Barthelemy, downed the midsummer pole Sunday morning, October 25.
Happy birthday to Ann Meier November 2 and Pamela Movalson November 4.
Happy anniversary to Bill and Marge Borland November 6.
Football season is over for the Howell teams, which include the Movalson grandchildren. Zach Movalson had a very good game as he made a touchdown and had many runs. The team took second place. Amanda Movalson’s cheer team took first place in competition at the end of the football season.
Two corrections regarding last week’s report:
It was Joe Louis Arena, known as the “Joe,” where the hockey tournament took place featuring Sarah Campbell’s hockey team from the NIHI Hockey Academy in Vermont.
Susie Sharp is still Susie Nesberg, happily married to Russ Nesberg.
