Cut River Bridge Opens October 26

After two seasons of construction, the deck of the US-2 Cut River Bridge has been replaced, and the historic bridge was opened to traffic Monday, October 26. The truss cantilevered bridge, about 25 miles west of St. Ignace in Hendricks Township, dates to 1941.

The project was originally scheduled to take place entirely in the 2008 construction season, but unexpected construction conditions forced the state highway department to postpone completion of the deck replacement project until this year, the department reported. The project will extend the service life of this bridge, and improve ride quality and safety for motorists, according to the department.

This project required a detour on nearby Cut River and Prater roads. The roadside parks located at each end of the bridge, which have been closed during construction, will remain closed until next spring.
