Police Seek Couple in Check Scam
A male and female couple cashed fraudulent checks at local stores Saturday, October 17, in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, police reported. The white male, 25 to 35 years of age, has light brown or blonde shoulder-length hair. He was dressed in jean shorts, white tennisshoes, and a dark colored baseball cap, with a “D” for Detroit Tigers, worn backwards. The female was also between the ages of 25 to 35, with long, straight, dark hair. She has a slender build and is much shorter than the male. She was wearing blue jeans and tan boots.
Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police in Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace are investigating the counterfeit check scam. Checks were cashed in Kinross, Rudyard, Moran, and Naubinway.
