Betty Sawyer
Betty Jane Sawyer, 80, of DeTour Village and Drummond Island, died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie.
She was born October 11, 1929, in Detroit to Harry William and Irene Martha (nee Barr) Boehm.
She grew up in the Detroit area and lived there until 1970, when she made Drummond Island her home. She worked at Sune's, Northwoods, and H & H Grocery and also delivered newspapers for The Evening News.
Ms. Sawyer was a member of St. Florence Catholic Church on Drummond Island. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed watching birds and talking on the telephone with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter and her family, Susan Kramptiz Lehman and Thomas Edward Lehman of DeTour Village; three grandchildren, Nathan Edward Lehman of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jason Thomas Lehman of Mt. Pleasant, and Elizabeth Hazel “Lizzie” Lehman of Petoskey; a brother, Harry “Joe” Boehm of Drummond Island; two nieces and their families, Christine and Mike Grzesiek of Drummond Island and Rebecca and Duane Sergent of Shelby Township, and great-nieces and great-nephews, Lindsay and Hallie Grzesick and Tyler and Mason Sergent. She had many friends among the staff at War Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.
A memorial will be celebrated Friday, November 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Florence Catholic Church on Drummond Island. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Drummond Island Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Florence Catholic Church on Drummond Island or to War Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Sault Ste. Marie.
Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
