Orma Clark

Orma Clark, 95, of St. Ignace, died Friday afternoon, October 23, 2009, at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care, where she has been a resident for the past six years.

She was born September 2, 1914, in Traverse City and spent her early years in Gaylord.

She was graduated from Gaylord High School in 1932.

She married Melvin Clark July 3, 1935, in Gaylord, and they spent their married life in Evergreen Shores. They spent 18 winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, after Mr. Clark’s retirement.

Mrs. Clark was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, and Glen Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her family, and also loved to cook, friends said, making special cookies for her grandchildren and special candy. Her hobbies included making doll clothes and sewing. She also enjoyed traveling.

Mrs. Clark is survived by one daughter and her family, Zoe and Don Olmstead of St. Ignace; four grandchildren and their families, Gilbert and Allison Olmstead of Concord, North Carolina, Tim and Sue Olmstead of Elgin, Illinois, Jacquie and Casey Evans of Lufkin, Texas, and David and Mary Olmstead of Aurora, Illinois; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Josh, Ben, Matthew, Kristen, Amy Lynn, and Sarah. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by a grandson, Donald Olmstead in 1988; a sister, Macelle House in 2009; and her parents, Roland and Lillian (nee Cook) Robinson.

Services were Tuesday, October 27, at noon at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace, with the Reverend Wayne Foote officiating. Visitation time was Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial was in St. Ignatius Loyola Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Smith, Johnny Smith, Armand Horn, Joe Frazier, Jerome LaJoice, and Jerry St. Andrew.

Memorials may be directed to hospice or the Long Term Care unit, with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home.
