Operation Christmas Child Collection Centers Gear Up
A collection drive is coming up this month for Operation Christmas Child, in which shoeboxes full of Christmas gifts are sent to needy children around the world. Donations may be dropped off at the Rudyard Bible Church and the St. Ignace Emporium store Monday, November 16, through Sunday, November 22. Items may be dropped off in Rudyard between 9 a.m. and noon, and in St. Ignace between 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. Last year the northern Michigan region packed and shipped more than 25,000 boxes.
Shoeboxes should be standard size and can be filled with any combination of items. Suggested items include personal hygiene items (soap in plastic bag, toothbrush, washcloth, toothpaste), toys, school supplies, sunglasses, shoes, jewelry, or chewing gum. In addition, a $7 donation to Samaritan's Purse for shipping for is encouraged.
