Deer Contests Available To Hunters Throughout EUP
Deer hunters will have several opportunities to show off their kills and win prizes for their efforts.
The Straits Area Sportsman's Club will conduct its annual contest from November 15 through November 30. Entrants must register before Sunday, November 15, and bring their deer to the Ace Hardware store at St. Ignace for the measurement of its rack. The deer must also be legally tagged. Interested people may sign up at the St. Ignace Ace Hardware store or Do-It Center. Entries cost $5, and first place will score 50% of the money raised. Second place will receive 33%, while third place will earn 17%.
Mackinaw Outfitters store in Mackinaw City is conducting a buck pole contest November 15. The contest will be judged by points and the inside spread of the antlers. Entries cost $2 and registrations must be received by Saturday, November 14. The hunter with the biggest buck overall will win a Benelli rifle, and a drawing will be held for a Remington rifle for everyone who registers a buck. The youth who registers the biggest buck will win a head mount, as well. Prizes will be granted to the first female, senior, and youth who register.
The Pickford Area Historical Society will conduct a contest, as well. Registration is $5 and forms can be obtained from the Pickford Feed Store or Wilderness Treasures store. Bucks can be submitted for measurement and weighing at the Pickford Feed Store. Results will be posted at the historical museum. The winner will receive 50% of the money raised.
